Paul Pierce made a game-winning dagger in Game 3 of the Washington Wizards’ playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. He went on to brick the game-winning shot in Game 4. In Game 5, Pierce had the opportunity to put the Wizards up by one with mere seconds remaining, and he did.
Up 81-80 with 8.3 seconds to play, Pierce turned to the Hawks bench and uttered a phrase so bold.
8.3 seconds later, the Wizards had lost to the Hawks 82-81. It’s ain’t over ’til it’s over. Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. Nene in the paint is as useful as 7-year-old asthmatic piccolo player. We’ve heard these age-old adages hundreds upon thousands of times, and Pierce decided to spite them all and tempt fate.
